South Africa defender Ime Okon has urged his teammates to put their opening-game defeat to Mexico behind them and focus on their next challenge at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Prompt News Online reports.
Bafana Bafana suffered a 2-0 loss to co-hosts Mexico in the tournament’s opening match at the Mexico City Stadium on Thursday night.
Julian Quiñones and Raul Jimenez scored the goals for Hugo Broos’ side, condemning South Africa to a disappointing start to the competition.
Despite the setback, Okon remained upbeat and called on the team to quickly shift their attention to their next fixture.
“It was a tough game. We had them at times. We just look forward, we’re positive. We know it’s a loss, but we’re looking to the next game now,” Okon told SportyTV after the match.
South Africa will aim to bounce back when they take on the Czech Republic in their second Group A fixture at the Atlanta Stadium
