Gernot Rohr has said Benin Republic will now look into the future following their failure to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Prompt News reports.
The Cheetahs lost 4-0 to the Super Eagles in their final qualifying game in Uyo on Tuesday night.
Benin Republic finished in third position in Group C behind South Africa and Nigeria.
Rohr expressed his disappointment with Cheetahs’ heavy defeat to the Super Eagles.
“We’re disappointed because our dream was to play at the World Cup,” Rohr said during his interaction with the media after the game.
“Big disappointment, that is my initial reaction.
“However, we have a young team and we will continue to build.”
“I am proud of my team because they did very well despite all the several challenges we had during the World Cup qualifiers.”
