Nigeria’s Falconets recorded a 1-0 victory over Rwanda in the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup second round, first leg qualifying encounter in Kigali on Sunday.
Both teams failed to register a goal in the first half.
Nigeria took the lead through Alaba Olabiyi in the 70th minute.
Olabiyi nodded home Miracle Usani’s corner-kick after she was left unmarked inside the Rwandan box.
The Falconets created more clear cut chances but were let down by poor finishing.
Moses Aduku’s side will entertain the Rwandans in the second leg at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasinga, Ibadan next weekend.
Nigeria has qualified for every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and has been runners-up twice, losing to Germany on both occasions, in 2010 and 2014.
