A woman, Hussaina Musa, has approached a Shari’a court in Rigasa, Kaduna State, seeking the dissolution of her marriage over claims that her husband, Hussaini Umar, abandons her whenever they have a disagreement.
Speaking before the court on Tuesday, the complainant alleged that her husband left her without food for over a month following a misunderstanding, prompting her to return to her parents’ home.
She told the court that she could no longer endure the alleged mistreatment and asked for the marriage to be dissolved.
In response, the defendant denied abandoning his wife.
He stated that he had traveled to another town for work and acknowledged that they had a dispute during the fasting period.
He also informed the court that he had reported the issue to his wife’s elder brother and that efforts were ongoing to resolve the conflict.
Umar appealed to the court for more time to reconcile with his wife.
Presiding Judge Muhammad Adamu adjourned the case to May 8 to allow the couple an opportunity to settle the matter out of court.
He also directed the complainant to present witnesses should reconciliation efforts fail.
