A Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has dissolved the relationship between a man, Sikiru, and his lover, Adijat, following allegations of constant quarrels, violence and neglect of their child.
Sikiru, who instituted the case, told the court that he met Adijat on the street and invited her home after they got talking, adding that they later had sexual relations which resulted in her pregnancy.
He alleged that Adijat subsequently became troublesome and regularly visited his home to cause disturbances and engage him in fights.
According to him, her alleged conduct also affected his business whenever she visited his workplace, where he claimed she caused heated arguments and drove away customers.
Sikiru said he approached the court because Adijat’s behaviour had allegedly become increasingly violent, adding that he feared she might harm him.
He therefore asked the court to end their relationship and restrain Adijat from harassing, threatening or interfering with his private life.
However, Adijat agreed that the relationship should be terminated but accused Sikiru of failing to provide adequate care for their child.
She alleged that he had neglected the child’s welfare and left most of the responsibilities of raising the child to her.
Adijat further told the court that Sikiru failed to provide financial assistance when their child fell ill and was admitted to hospital.
She added that the situation became so difficult that she reported the matter to Amotekun, who subsequently arrested him.

The woman prayed the court to grant her custody of their child and order Sikiru to take responsibility for the child’s upkeep.
The court subsequently brought the relationship to an end.
