Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has challenged the idea that an artist’s worth should be measured by chart positions or streaming figures.
The singer’s comments came after a fan called him out for celebrating his diss track against Odumodublvck, ACL, which had reached the top spot on Apple Music Nigeria.
On his X account, Blaqbonez wrote: “Charts are exciting, but they don’t define an artist. Many of the musicians I enjoy in Naija don’t even appear on the charts.”
Prompt News reports that he also warned fans against putting too much stock in streaming numbers, noting that they can be easily influenced.

“You quickly judge someone as failing based on figures that can be manipulated. Listen with your ears—if a song is good, it’s good, that’s it,” he added.
Blaqbonez’s stance reinforces his belief that true talent in the Nigerian music scene can’t always be measured by numbers alone.
