Gift Monday has said she remain committed to playing for Nigeria despite her omission from the Super Falcons squad to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Prompt News reports.
The Washington Spirit striker was a notable absentee from the 24-player squad released by head coach Justine Madugu on Friday.
Monday has been in fantastic form since linking up with the National Women’s Soccer League, NWSL.
The 23-year-old has scored four goals and registered one assist in nine league appearances for Spirit.
“Sometimes the hardest moments show us how strong we are. It hurts not to be on the list. I won’t lie — it’s painful. But I have no anger. I am fit and still love the game and my country. Even though I won’t be in Morocco, my heart will be with the team. I’ll be watching, supporting, and believing. I’ll be back,” she wrote on X.
“I am hale and hearty, fully fit, and still deeply in love with the game and the green white green.”
