A violent altercation unfolded at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday when suspected thugs interrupted a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, sparking fear among party members.
The meeting, which was overseen by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, saw the presence of key figures such as National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, and former Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye.
Prompt News reports that conflict arose between Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye, who are both contending for the position of PDP National Secretary.
Ude-Okoye, who had arrived first, was forced to leave when Anyanwu entered alongside Damagum.
The clash is tied to an ongoing leadership dispute within the party. In 2023, the PDP’s South East zone nominated Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu, who had been involved in the Imo State governorship election.
A High Court ruling in December 2024 ousted Anyanwu, naming Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary.
However, a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal allowed Anyanwu to continue in office until the Supreme Court makes a final decision.
