The Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, community has been thrown into mourning following the death of a 400-level Electrical Engineering student, Bello Ahmed, who reportedly died after suddenly falling ill while undergoing his Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme.
Ahmed, who was also a fashion designer, reportedly died on Sunday, leaving his colleagues and other members of the university community grieving.
A colleague of the deceased, Yusuf Sani, disclosed this in a Facebook chat with PUNCH Metro on Monday, saying Ahmed had been in good health earlier in the day before his condition suddenly deteriorated.
According to Sani, the deceased had visited his tailoring shop earlier that day and showed no signs of illness before he suddenly took ill in the afternoon.
“He was fine and healthy when he went to his shop yesterday. Later in the afternoon, he fell sick and was taken back home by his brother.
“Moments later, the sickness worsened, and by evening, Bello was pronounced dead,” Sani said.
The colleague added that Ahmed was buried at about 9 am on Monday at his family home in Dogarawa, Zaria.
Reacting to the death, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, ABU branch, expressed grief over the loss and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.
In a statement signed by the society’s Amir, Zayyad Abdulwahab, the group described Ahmed as a beloved brother and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon him.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, have mercy upon him, illuminate and widen his grave, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah make his grave a garden from the gardens of Paradise,” the statement read.
The society also prayed for strength and patience for the deceased’s family, friends, coursemates and others affected by the loss.
“May Allah give his family, friends, coursemates and everyone affected by this loss the strength and patience to bear this difficult moment,” the statement added.
