The Niger State Police Command has arrested two men over alleged impersonation of soldiers and the theft of a vehicle and other valuables in the Tungan-Mallam area of the state.
The suspects, identified as 34-year-old Ogbonna David and 30-year-old Chidiebere Okonkwo, were arrested on September 20, 2026, according to the police.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspects were apprehended with a Mazda vehicle suspected to have been stolen.
Abiodun said police officers searching the vehicle recovered items believed to be linked to military impersonation.
The recovered items included three camouflage uniforms, a pair of military boots, a green beret and passport photographs belonging to a military officer.
The police also recovered four solar batteries, mobile phones and other valuables from the vehicle.
According to the command, two other suspects, one of whom was allegedly a serving soldier, escaped during the operation and are currently being hunted by the police.
The two arrested suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation.
The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their alleged roles in the incident.

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist investigators in tracking down suspects connected to the case.
