Troops under Sub-Sector 4 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully ambushed and killed three armed bandits near the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Tuesday.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Kaduna, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division, Lt-Col. Musa Yahaya, confirmed the operation.
He explained that the troops acted on credible intelligence, which indicated the presence of violent extremists near Ngwagi Hill in Gwagwada Community, Chikun Local Government Area.
In response, soldiers were deployed for a long-range patrol to intercept the suspects at a strategic crossing point.
The ambush was carried out at around 5:30 p.m., leading to the elimination of three insurgents.
Weapons and other items recovered from the scene included two AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 374 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 special ammunition, and 88 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 NATO ammunition. The troops also seized an Infinix mobile phone, medical supplies, clothing, and food rations.
Lt-Col. Yahaya commended the troops for their commitment and combat effectiveness, crediting the success of the operation to strong collaboration between the military and intelligence agencies.
He urged them to sustain their efforts until all criminal elements in the region are eradicated.
