Six suspects have been arrested in Lagos for vandalising a government-installed barricade at the Obalende Roundabout, one of the city’s busiest traffic points.
Those arrested are Matthew Yohana, 19; Jinadu Aliyu, 33; Yohanna Adamu, 29; Ayuba James, 25; Umoru John, 19; and Yakubu Ali, 25.
Confirming the development in a statement on X, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“All arrested individuals will be prosecuted in line with the relevant extant law of the state.
We will not allow criminality or lawlessness to undermine public safety or the environment in Lagos State,” Wahab said.
The arrest is the latest in a series of enforcement operations aimed at curbing vandalism and maintaining public order across the metropolis.
Earlier this year, several youths were apprehended in Ojota and Ikeja for damaging traffic signs and obstructing roadways.
The government has urged residents to support law enforcement by reporting acts of vandalism that threaten public safety and infrastructure.
