The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has distanced itself from former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, stating clearly that he is not a member of the party and has no authority to speak on its behalf.
This was disclosed by the party’s North-West Zonal Secretary, Inuwa Idris, during a press briefing on Friday in Kaduna.
“It has come to our notice that Malam El-Rufai has been appearing at various forums including policy discussions and stakeholder meetings claiming to represent the SDP.
Let it be clearly stated: he is neither authorised nor recognised in any capacity by the party to speak on its behalf,” Idris declared.
According to him, El-Rufai’s actions were not sanctioned by the party’s national leadership, including Acting National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar. He also confirmed that El-Rufai is not listed in the party’s membership records, has never participated in its activities, and holds no formal position within the organisation.
Idris reaffirmed the party’s leadership structure, highlighting Dr. Umar, National Secretary Chief Olu Agunloye, and the 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, as its legitimate representatives.
He urged the public and stakeholders to disregard any statements made by El-Rufai under the SDP name.
The party warned that all future policy discussions or partnerships must go through officially endorsed representatives, whose identities can be verified upon request.
In a related development, Idris announced a vote of no confidence in El-Rufai and called for the immediate suspension of Dr. Umar Ardo, accusing him of promoting another political party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while exploiting the SDP platform.
