Rider in court for allegedly stealing motorcycle

A 25-year-old rider, Peter Jonathan, was on Monday brought before a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing his employer’s motorcycle.

Jonathan, who resides opposite Chief Palace, Karmo Village, Abuja, is standing trial on a count charge of theft.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, said  that Jonathan stole a motorcycle given him for commercial purposes by one Mr John Ada of Idu Gbagyi, Karmo, who reported the case at the Karmo Police Station on June 20.

She said that the theft occurred sometime in June.

According to Ukagha, Ada employed Jonathan  to ride his Bajaj motorcycle worth N250, 000 within Karmo Village but the defendant stole the motorcycle.

Ukagha said that the defendant claimed during police investigation that the motorcycle was forcefully snatched from him.

She submitted that there was nothing to justify the defendant’s claim.

The prosecutor  said that  efforts by the police to recover the motorcycle proved abortive, noting that the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.
