Embattled street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has regained his freedom following about one week in police custody.
The singer was taken before a magistrate court in Ota, Ogun State, on January 12, where he faced several charges, including assault, theft, inflicting injury and obstructing law enforcement officers. He was also linked to the alleged theft of a Mercedes-Benz E300 said to be worth N12 million.
At the time of his arraignment, the court declined to grant him bail due to the absence of the police officer responsible for prosecuting the case, leading to his continued detention.
However, Portable’s release has since triggered widespread reactions online. A video making the rounds on social media showed the controversial singer surrounded by friends and loyalists who cheered and welcomed him back. In a lighthearted moment captured in the clip, Portable jokingly told those around him that his new name is “Innocenty.”
His manager, Baby Luv, also took to Instagram to mark the development. Sharing a photo of Portable alongside his first wife, Bewaji, she expressed gratitude and applauded Bewaji’s loyalty during the singer’s legal challenges.
