The Nigeria Police Force has released guidelines for individuals seeking to obtain a Police Character Certificate and Tinted Glass Permit through its Police Specialised Services Automation Project (POSSAP) portal.

According to information provided on the platform, applicants can complete most of the registration process online before visiting a designated police command or formation for biometric capture.

For a Police Character Certificate, applicants are required to complete an online application form by providing their preferred means of identification, which may include the National Identification Number, Bank Verification Number or International Passport.

Other required details include full name, phone number, email address, gender, state of residence, local government area, residential address and, where applicable, an alternative contact.

The application process for a Tinted Glass Permit consists of four stages. Applicants are expected to select the permit service, complete the online form, verify the submitted information and proceed with payment.

The personal information required for the permit application is similar to that of the Police Character Certificate, including a valid means of identification, contact details and residential information.

The police stated that all applications would be assessed in line with operational guidelines and security considerations, noting that approval is not automatic.

The Force also warned that the submission of false information, forged documents or fake biometric data would lead to the rejection of an application and could result in legal sanctions.

Applicants residing in Nigeria are required to appear in person at their chosen police command or formation on their scheduled appointment date for biometric enrolment.

The police further explained that each application attracts a one-time, non-refundable processing fee, which must be paid exclusively through the POSSAP portal using the invoice generated during the application process.

It added that applicants should not make any additional payment at police formations for biometric capture or the collection of certificates or permits.

According to the guidelines, the processing and issuance of successful applications take a minimum of 72 hours after the completion of all required procedures.
