The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has begun an investigation into the kidnapping of a family of four in Chikakore, a community within the Bwari Area Council of Abuja.
A local security guard, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the abduction, stating that four individuals had been taken.
“The attack occurred this morning, and we have confirmed that four people were kidnapped,” the guard said.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, stating that seven armed men, disguised as vigilante members, invaded the community in the early hours of Monday.
The assailants, carrying machetes and other dangerous weapons, forcibly abducted the victims after deceiving them into opening their gate.
In her statement, Adeh revealed that the police received a distress call around 1:00 A.M. on January 27, 2025, reporting the abduction and assault in Chikakore. Police operatives swiftly responded to the scene.
“Preliminary investigations showed that the suspects, disguised as vigilante members, attacked the victim’s home, lured the family into opening the gate, and then abducted them,” the statement read.
A neighbor who attempted to intervene during the attack was injured and later rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for medical care.
The FCT Police Command has launched an intensive search and rescue operation to locate and free the abducted family members, while also working to apprehend the perpetrators.
“The FCT Police Command is fully committed to securing the safe return of the victims and bringing the criminals to justice,” Adeh added.
She also urged the residents of Chikakore and the general public to remain vigilant and report any useful information that could aid in the investigation and the victims’ rescue.
