Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has promised to prioritise youth empowerment and security of lives and property in 2021.

This is contained in a statement issued by Dr. Makut Macham, the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, on Thursday in Jos.

Lalong, who congratulated the residents for witnessing and overcoming the challenges of 2020, called on them to pray for a peaceful and prosperous state in 2021.

Lalong also promised to overcome the economic challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic through private sector engagement by creating an enabling environment for them to thrive.

“We must all join hands together to overcome COVID-19 which adversely affected our economy

“While government intensifies action in tackling the disease, the citizens must take personal responsibility for their health and that of others by strictly observing COVID-19 safety protocols at all times.

“We shall not hesitate to take serious measures that will ensure that we avoid another lockdown due to the pandemic.

“Government will continue to support the conventional security agencies to apprehend and prosecute criminals particularly in crimes relating to kidnapping, cultism, land grabbing and other violent crimes using the law to curb such occurrences.

“The Rescue Administration will continue to invest in human capital development through training and empowerment of youths and women and other groups in various entrepreneurship schemes initiated by both state and federal governments,” he said.

Lalong also pledged to provide infrastructure that would enhance development and growth of the state in 2021. (NAN)
