By Olusegun Lawrence Both the Upper and Lower Chambers of Nigeria’s National Assembly will not reconvene for plenary on Thursday.
Normally, both Chambers hold plenary three days weekly- Tuesday to Thursday.
But, the presiding officers- Senate President Bukola Saraki and House Speaker Yakubu Dogara, decided to suspend Thursday plenary in their respective Chambers to enable the opposition legislators attend a special event being organized by the party.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is holding what it christened “PDP Rebranding Conference” on Thursday, November 12, in Abuja.
It is thus a show of solidarity that the Senate and the House of Representatives will not sit to enable the PDP Senators and Reps members attend the conference.
However, Senate claimed that the plenary was shut down in order to honor the late Acting Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Durojaye Adedotun who died on last week Friday.
It was however gathered that the decision to shut down the session to enable the opposition senators attend their programme was arrived at a closed door session which lasted for about 45 minutes.
Prompt News recalls that both Mr. Saraki and Mr. Dogara clinched their plum jobs with the support of the PDP lawmakers who not only voted for them but have remained loyal to their leaderships.
