Toni Payne has expressed her delight after ending a nearly five-year goal drought for the Super Falcons, Prompt News Online reports.
The Everton midfielder was among the scorers in the Super Falcons 2-1 over Senegal in a friendly at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne on Friday.
Asisat Oshoala gave Nigeria the lead from the penalty spot before Payne doubled the advantage, helping the nine-time African champions take a comfortable 2-0 lead into the break.
Senegal pulled one back in the second half, but Nigeria held on to claim the victory.
Speaking after the game, Payne admitted she was thrilled to get back on the scoresheet for the Super Falcons after such a long wait.
“I’m happy to score for the Falcons after almost five years. It’s really special to do it here in Nigeria,” she said.
The second friendly will hold at the same venue next week Monday.
