After suffering a lone goal defeat in the hands of arch-rivals, Super Falcons Of Nigeria in Friday’s Paris Olympics Women’s Football Tournament CAF qualifiers final round first leg match at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, South Africa’s senior women’s football team, Banyana Banyana will fly out of Abuja today aboard RwandAir flight via Kigali ahead of the return tie billed for Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Tuesday.
Head coach of Banyana Banyana, Desiree Ellis told Prompt News that the South African delegation made up of players, coaching crew, backroom staff and officials of South Africa Football Association (SAFA) on the trip will depart Abuja this Saturday for South Africa to prepare for the second leg match against Nigeria on Tuesday.
A 43rd minute penalty goal scored by captain Rasheedat Ajibade was all Nigeria needed to pip South Africa in the first leg match in Abuja on Friday just as all efforts to increase their tally proved futile as the resilient South Africans dug in and took the match to the end without conceeding another goal.
This result was welcomed by the reigning African champions who celebrated at the end of the encounter as if they won the away match although both countries will play the second leg on Tuesday in Pretoria and the winner over two legs will qualify for the Olympic Games in France later in the year.
