Oyo Assembly screens, confirms 9 additional commissioner-nominees

Oyo State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, screened and confirmed nine additional commissioner-nominees.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Seyi Makinde had forwarded a list of commissioner-nominees for screening and confirmation by the assembly.

The confirmed commissioners were: Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, Mr Abiodun Akinkonmo, Mr Segun Olayiwola, Prof Abdulwaheed Soliu, Mr Majeed Mogbojunbola, Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Mr Williams Akinfunmilayo, Mr Obafemi Ojo and Prince Dotun Oyelade.

NAN reports that the commissioner-nominees took turn to address the lawmakers on their political antecedents, educational background and plans of action for the state.

Two of the lawmakers, Messrs Bamidele Adeola and Gabriel Babajide, urged the commissioner-nominees to prioritise the interest of the state.

The Speaker, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, after the screening, asked each of the commissioner-nominees to take a bow and go.

In another development, the assembly frowned at the resurgence of kidnapping in Kajola Local Government Area of the state.

NAN reports that the resurgent kidnapping came up under matter of urgent public importance brought by one of the lawmakers, Mr Musbau Azeez.

The assembly called on the police and other security agencies to urgently secure the release of the Medical Director of Baptist Medical Centre, Okeho, Dr David Lawal and another staffer of the hospital, simply identified as Kafilat, who were kidnapped on July 23.

Azeez said that people living in Oke Ogun zone of the state were living in perpetual fear.

He also said that farmers were afraid of going to farm, with others becoming apprehensive to go about their daily business activities because of fear of being killed, maimed or kidnapped.

The house also urged the executive arm of government, through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, to put necessary machinery in place to address the situation.

Such measures, they said, should include installation of CCTV cameras, security light and other gadgets in strategic locations across the state in order to expose the criminal elements in the state. (NAN)
