Two men alleged to be political thugs from Edo State have reportedly arrived in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, issuing threats against Governor Ademola Adeleke and Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The men made the threats in a 98 second video circulating on social media, in which they claimed to have travelled to Osun ahead of the election.
In the video, the men allegedly threatened to remove Adeleke from office, while also warning Davido over his involvement in his uncle’s political campaign.
They claimed that their presence in the state was aimed at ensuring the defeat of the incumbent governor at the poll.
“Adeleke will learn the hard way. Davido will learn the hard way.
You said you want to sing again, now you want to do politics, we will finish you,” one of the men was heard saying in the video.
They further threatened to “capture Adeleke” during the election, while making reference to the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
The video surfaced amid heightened security concerns surrounding the Osun governorship election, with security agencies deploying personnel across the state to maintain peace and prevent electoral violence.
Davido subsequently drew the attention of the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Services to the video by tagging the agencies in his social media post.
The singer’s action came against the backdrop of his active involvement in the campaign of his uncle, who is seeking re-election in the election.
The authenticity of the men’s claims about their origin and political affiliation could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
There was also no immediate official statement from the Nigeria Police Force or the DSS on the alleged threats.
