Tragedy struck in Idanre, Ondo State, after two seven-year-old boys, identified as Oloyede Ayo and Clinton Koleola, were electrocuted by a live electric wire that reportedly fell on a shop along Apefon Road.
The incident occurred on Saturday, September 26, 2026, throwing residents of the area into confusion and mourning.
The two boys were reportedly inside the shop when the live wire suddenly fell on the building, creating panic among those in the vicinity.
An eyewitness said the children attempted to escape from the shop after the wire fell, but came into contact with the live electrical current.
The eyewitness said the contact with the wire resulted in the boys being electrocuted.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Abayomi, said the command had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Abayomi explained that preliminary findings indicated that a live electric wire fell unexpectedly on the shop, electrocuting the children as they attempted to flee.
The police spokesman expressed the command’s condolences to the families of the deceased.
He assured that the police would thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
