Oba Moses Ekundayo Bakare, the Onidogun of Idogun in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has reportedly died amid a protracted leadership crisis that led to his departure from the community.
The monarch was said to have died on Thursday, October 15, 2026, although details surrounding his death remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
A top government official confirmed his death to Sunshine Truth Media on Friday, saying some high chiefs in Idogun had informed him of the development.
His reported death comes days after some residents of the community marked the first anniversary of his departure from Idogun, an event reportedly organised amid lingering disagreements over his reign.
The crisis was reportedly fuelled by allegations of misconduct against the monarch, including claims of thuggery and improper land sales. However, the allegations have not been independently verified.
Tensions between the traditional ruler and some members of the community reportedly escalated before his departure from the town.
Some residents recently organised an event to commemorate one year since his exit, with the theme, “One Year Freedom and Exit of a Tyrant.”
The event reportedly attracted media organisations, while a cow was said to have been slaughtered as part of the celebration.
