An Ondo State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of three men accused of attempting to kidnap a woman in Akoko, Ondo State.
The defendants—Bankole Kayode, 32; Akande Michael, 33; and Abu Dada, 31—were arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and attempted kidnapping.
According to the prosecution, led by I.O. Osobu, the trio attempted to abduct one Mrs. Julianah Shaba at about 1:00 a.m. on May 12, 2025, at her residence on Olorunsogo Street in Iboropa-Akoko, located in Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
The charge sheet indicated that the alleged offence violates Section 4 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law of 2010.
During Monday’s proceedings, the defendants’ pleas were not taken.
The prosecuting counsel urged the court to remand them at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
However, defence counsel, Akinde Ayomide, opposed the application, arguing that there were insufficient grounds to warrant their continued detention.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted the remand application and directed that the case file be forwarded to the DPP for review.
