The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has announced the passing of Professor Olanipekun Famakinwa from the Department of Philosophy.
According to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, Famakinwa fell ill during a departmental meeting on Wednesday and was immediately taken to the university’s Health and Medical Centre. After an initial assessment, doctors referred him to the OAU Teaching Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor Simeon Bamire, accompanied by other university officials, visited the family of the late professor to offer condolences. Expressing shock over the sudden loss, Bamire described Famakinwa as a brilliant scholar who made a significant impact in his field.
The university community is mourning his passing, with his remains now deposited at the Department of Anatomy. During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged the family to find solace in Famakinwa’s legacy of academic excellence and positive influence. He also prayed for strength for his loved ones, colleagues, and students as they cope with the loss.
