Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has rejoined South African Premier Soccer League outfit Chippa United after failing to secure a transfer to another club during the transfer window, Prompt News Online reports.
Nwabali parted ways with the Chilli Boys in February after both parties agreed to terminate his contract, with the expectation that he would complete a move elsewhere.
However, after months without securing a new club, the experienced shot-stopper has returned to the Eastern Cape side.
Chippa United confirmed Nwabali’s return in a statement posted on the club’s official X account on Sunday.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys. After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club,” the statement read.
The 30-year-old initially joined Chippa United from Nigeria Premier Football League side Katsina United in 2022 and quickly established himself as one of the club’s key performers.
Nwabali made 66 league appearances during his first spell with the Chilli Boys, earning widespread praise for his consistency and commanding presence between the posts.
His impressive performances at club level also helped him become Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper. He starred for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where Nigeria finished runners-up, producing several match-winning displays during the tournament.
Nwabali will now be expected to reclaim his place as Chippa United prepare for the 2026/27 South African Premiership campaign, with the club hoping his experience and leadership will strengthen their push for a successful season.
