            Nigeria Wins 29 Medals At Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship

            …Athletes, Officials Return on Monday

            Nigeria Weightlifting team to the 2026 Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship on Saturday rounded off their participation winning five additional medals.

            The contingent of 10 athletes and three officials stamped Nigeria’s dominance in the continent winning a record 29 medals overall – 14 gold, 13 silver and 2 bronze

            Mary Osijo who competed in the 79kg women’s category on Friday won three silver medals while Lucky Joseph who competed in +110kg men’s class on Saturday won two bronze medals.

            Osijo lifted 95kg in snatch, and 116kg in clean and jerk with a total of 280kg to win all the three medals at stake.

            On his part, Lucky Joseph lifted 145kg in snatch, 170kg in clean and jerk with a total of 315kg to win two bronze medals.

            Nigeria female lifters emerged 3rd in the continent after winning 12 gold and 6 silver medals.

            Nigeria’s participation and medals record include:

            1. Ruth Asuquo Nyong 48 Kg. Snatch:74 kg – Clean $ Jerk: 93 kg – Total: 167 kg.
              Gold 3.
            2. Onome Omolola Didih 53 Kg. Snatch: 87 kg – Clean & Jerk:105 kg -Total:192 kg.
              Gold 3.
            3. Rafiatu Folashade Lawal 58 Kg. Snatch: 95 kg – Clean & Jerk: 120 kg -Total: 215 kg.
              Gold 3.
            4. Ruth Imoleayo Ayodele 63 kg. Snatch: 90 kg Clean & Jerk: 110 kg – 200 kg. Silver 3.
            5. Liadi Taiwo 77 kg. Snatch: 105 Kg – Clean & Jerk: 138 kg – Total: 243 kg.
              Gold 3
            6. Taiwo Mary Osijo. 86 Kg. Snatch: 95 kg – Clean & Jerk: 116 kg – Total: 211 Kg.
              Silver 3

            MEN:-

            1. Favour Omovigho Agboro 65 kg. Snatch: 123kg – Clean & Jerk: 157kg – Total: 280 kg.
              Gold 1 – Silver 2
            2. Edidiong Joseph Umoafia 71 kg. Snatch: 141 kg – Clean & Jerk: 170 kg – Total: 311 kg.
              Gold 1 – Silver 2
            3. Adedapo Adeleke Opadeji. 79 kg. Snatch: 140 kg – Clean& Jerk: 170 kg – Total: 310 kg.
              Silver 3
            4. Lucky Joseph. +110 kg. Snatch: 145 kg – Clean & Jerk: 170 kg – Total: 315 kg.

            The 2026 African Senior Weightlifting Championships. Ismaila, Egypt which started on May 10th will end today, May 17th May, 2026.

            Nigeria’s contingent is expected to return to the country on Monday, May 18.
