The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has concluded plans to honour Super Eagles winger Moses Simon as he closes in on a century of appearances for Nigeria at senior international level.
Simon is set to earn his 100th cap for the Super Eagles if he features in Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Madagascar.
The fleet-footed winger made his senior international debut on 25 March 2015 and has since accumulated 99 appearances for Nigeria, scoring 12 goals.
Of the 99 matches in which Simon has featured, the Super Eagles have recorded 49 victories, 30 draws and 20 defeats.
A diligent, dedicated and resilient servant of the game, Simon has represented Nigeria in 64 competitive matches and 35 friendly fixtures. He has also featured in 23 Africa Cup of Nations finals matches and 22 FIFA World Cup qualifying games.
One of Simon’s early appearances for Nigeria came in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Swaziland, with the second leg played in Port Harcourt. Following a goalless draw in Mbabane, the Eagles needed a victory to advance in the qualification race.
With the match heading towards its conclusion, Simon produced a moment of brilliance, scoring directly from a 22-yard free-kick to put Nigeria on course for a 2-0 victory.
Speaking ahead of the milestone, NFF Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised Simon for his commitment to the national team and his contribution to Nigerian football.
“I can testify that Moses Simon is an incredible player and a wonderful human being, having related with him at close quarters for several years. He is a patriot to the core, and forever passionate and dedicated to the Nigeria cause,” Ikpeme said.
“The NFF celebrates him on this special occasion and wishes him many more caps with the Super Eagles.”
