The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday arraigned two men in Lagos for alleged illegal deal in Cannabis Sativa.
The defendants, Jelili Kamoru 44, and Sodiq Oduola, 25, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and illegal deal in 798kg of the banned substance.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of a Federal High Court.
After their pleas, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, asked the court for a trial date.
Defence counsel, Mr Uche Okoronkwo, moved bail applications on behalf of the defendants, urging the court to grant them bail on liberal terms.
Aneke adjourned the case until Nov. 29, for ruling on the bail applications.
The NDLEA alleged in the charge that the defendants committed the offences on Oct. 25, and were arrested on a tipoff at Akala in Mushin, Lagos State.
According to the agency, Cannabis Sativa weighing 798kg was recovered from the defendants during a search.
Cannabis, Cocaine, Heroin and other hard drugs are listed in the NDLEA Schedule as banned.
Trafficking in any of them contravenes Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004, which provides for up to life imprisonment on conviction. (NAN)
