Nasarawa State, north-central Nigeria, has recorded its first case of coronavirus codenamed ‘Covid-19’.
The state governor, Abdullahi Sule, announced this today (Tuesday) while speaking to journalists in Lafia, the state capital.
According to him, one of the people in isolation has been confirmed positive for the virus.
The woman who just came back from Kano has since been picked up by the health authority in the state.
Gov Sule said, “just yesterday, we had five tests that had been conducted in Nasarawa state. Four out of the five came out negative.”
”However, we are not that lucky, for the first time, we have a lady in Kokona that tested positive”.
“The lady actually travelled from Kano to Kokona and she was tested. After the test, it came out that she is positive,” he said.
The governor explained that when it was discovered that there is someone that travelled from Kano back to their home, the health authority tried to go and conduct a test on this lady. The family of the patient barricaded the house and hid her, refusing the medical practitioners to run tests on her.
Engr. Sule warned against inter-state travel during the lockdown. “I want to encourage our people, especially the traders that continue to travel to places like Kano and Lagos and return home, that they could be doing more harm to their families and the whole state. Bear with the government and obey. Postpone all your travels especially to places of high risk.”
The governor gave the assurance that plans are on ground to curtail the spread of the virus in the state.
