A Dangote Mixer truck (KANO MDB 531 XA) with brake failure has crushed a woman around Abule-Egba area of Lagos State.
The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed this in a statement on Monday in Lagos.
According to Taofiq, the trapped (female) dead body was evacuated underneath the Dangote truck by Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
“The body was immediately handed over to Police men from Oko-Oba Police Station.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the Dangote mixer truck while on a high speed lost control as a result of brake failure and while trying to swerve into a drainage channel crushed an innocent woman.
“While the truck driver was immediately apprehended by LASTMA officials, policemen from Oko-Oba Police Station provided security , while the rescue operations lasted.
“Abdul Salam Nurudeen (Alpha, Zone 19 Abule-Egba/Tollgate) , who led the recovery operations confirmed that his team was supported by sympathisers to remove the trapped dead body,” he said.
Taofiq quoted the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, to have warned truck owners and drivers to always ensure their trucks are properly checked including the brakes, before embarking on any journey within or outside Lagos. (NAN)
