Four communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have been raided by suspected armed herdsmen, leaving more than 20 farmers dead.
The attackers struck at midnight, targeting Pastor Camp, Sunday Village, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camp within the Ala Elefosan area, forcing many residents to flee for their lives.
A local source disclosed that the herdsmen have been launching repeated assaults on farming communities, killing residents without facing resistance.
The source further revealed that 14 bodies have been recovered in the past 48 hours, while searches are ongoing for missing individuals.
Expressing concern over the incident, the Regent of Ademekun Village, Princess Adelowo Adekemisola, confirmed that more than 14 farmers were killed over the weekend.
She lamented that her community has been under constant attacks from herdsmen, yet security agencies have not taken effective measures to address the crisis.
She explained that the assailants infiltrated the area through the Edo-Ondo border before launching the attack.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami, assured that security agencies are working to track down the attackers and enhance protection for other communities in Akure North and surrounding areas.
