Actor Hafiz Oyetoro, widely known as Saka, has shared how veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko initially opposed his casting as a lawyer in a movie.
Oyetoro made the revelation while speaking with African A-List, recalling an experience from a film produced by Dele Odule and directed by Kosoko.
He said Odule had selected him for the role, but Kosoko was unconvinced that he was the right person for the character after seeing him quietly seated on the set.
“Mr Dele Odule wanted to make a film and he cast me in a role. Uncle Jide Kosoko was the director,” he recounted.
According to Oyetoro, Kosoko asked Odule whether he had found an actor to take on the lawyer role. When Odule confirmed that he had, he pointed towards Oyetoro.
“Uncle Jide asked Dele Odule if he had found someone to play the lawyer role. Dele Odule said he had found someone who will play it well. Uncle Jide asked again and Dele Odule pointed at me.
“Uncle Jide saw me sitting there quietly and helpless. They argued for a while. Uncle Jide said no, but Dele insisted. Reluctantly, Uncle Jide agreed to let me do it.”
Prompt News reports Oyetoro said Kosoko’s reservations changed after he eventually watched him perform the role.
The actor recalled that after completing the day’s shoot, Kosoko invited him to his room and asked whether he had taken offence at his earlier doubts.

“When I got on set, I delivered. After we wrapped at night, Uncle Jide called for me. I went to his room and he asked if I was angry. He explained he didn’t know my capability because of how quietly I had been sitting”, he added.
Oyetoro’s account highlights how his performance on the set eventually convinced Kosoko that he could handle the demanding role.
