Nigeria’s elections management body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has concluded plans to make public the election timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election despite delays by the National Assembly in passing the amended Electoral Act, Prompt News reports.
According to a press statement signed by INEC Deputy Director of Publicity, Wilfred Ifogah, the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, will this afternoon at the INEC headquarters in Abuja hold a World Press Conference on the Notice of the 2027 General Election.
This is even as Amupitan had last week disclosed that INEC has concluded work on the election timetable and schedule of activities for the polls while waiting for NASS to pass the new Amendment Act into law.
He also said that the Commission had already forwarded its recommendations on the proposed amendments to the National Assembly, noting, however, that the timing of the passage of the new law could affect certain aspects of the election schedule.
He explained that until the lawmakers conclude work on the amendment, INEC would continue to operate based on the existing Electoral Act.
Based on the above, INEC will today announce the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 polls.
