Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has declared that he does not see himself as being on the same level as other actors in the Nigerian film industry.
Edochie made the remarks during an appearance on comedian Isbae U’s online programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask, in a recently released episode.
The actor was asked to name his favourite actor during the interview but declined, explaining that he considered himself to be above his colleagues.
“I don’t have a favourite actor because I am bigger than all of them,” Edochie said.
Prompt News reports Edochie also responded to claims from some people in the industry who have said they are senior to him in acting.
He said he has chosen not to engage with such comments whenever they are made publicly.
“People have been writing that they are older than me in the industry, but I don’t respond,” he said.
When asked about actors who believe they occupy the same position as him, the veteran challenged anyone holding such an opinion to make it known publicly.
“Whoever said they are of the same level with me should come out and say it,” he said.
His comments come against the backdrop of earlier remarks by actor Yemi Solade, who claimed that he began acting before Edochie.
Solade previously acknowledged that Edochie is older than him but maintained that he started his acting career earlier, while referring to Edochie as a senior colleague.
The matter resurfaced when Solade appeared on Curiosity Made Me Ask, where he again maintained that he entered the acting profession before Edochie.

Edochie did not directly mention Solade while addressing those who have claimed to have greater seniority or regarded themselves as his equals.
The veteran actor was also asked about his description as a legend in Nollywood. While admitting that he was uncertain about what the title meant, he said he appreciated being recognised and celebrated.
“I don’t know the definition of people’s legend, but I’m glad to be celebrated,” he said.
Edochie has had a decades-long career in Nollywood and remains one of the industry’s most prominent figures, having played a significant role in the development of Nigerian cinema.
