Popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Daniel Etim-Effiong, has shared how his faith shapes his approach to acting, revealing that he always prays before shooting romantic scenes.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds, the Herd director explained that prayer is a vital part of his creative process, describing it as an act of worship that keeps him grounded amid the demands of his profession.
“I get all my inspiration from God,” Etim-Effiong said. “I go on my knees and pray before I go to set and kiss.”
The 37-year-old actor, who has drawn attention for his romantic screen performances—especially after his viral kissing scene with actress Bolaji Ogunmola in Summer Rain—clarified that his intention has never been to stir controversy but to tell meaningful stories.

“The fact that I play a lot of romantic roles means I get to have kissing scenes sometimes. But the question should go to the producers, why are they expressing affection only one way? There are other ways to show intimacy,” he noted.
Etim-Effiong, who left behind a thriving engineering career to follow his passion for acting, said his journey in the film industry is guided by purpose and spirituality.
“My family is my garden, then my work. Acting feels like a calling to me, a way to worship through storytelling,” he added.
Prompt News reports he also spoke about why many Nollywood films include romantic scenes, explaining that market trends often influence such creative choices.
“The average Nollywood script says, ‘kiss passionately,’ because that’s what sells. But I believe there are braver ways to explore affection on screen,” the actor stated.
Despite public scrutiny, Etim-Effiong emphasized that his faith and focus help him maintain balance between his career and personal life.
“When you’re a focused person, you don’t let naysayers get to you. You just do your job and move with purpose,” he said.
