A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Abiola Ogundokun, has predicted that opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi will once again lose if they contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Ogundokun urged opposition leaders to abandon their ambitions and instead align with President Bola Tinubu’s political structure if they hope to remain relevant.
“Any presidential hopeful with foresight should be aligning with Tinubu now, not preparing to run against him. They’re free to contest, but defeat is certain—just like in 2023,” he said.
Ogundokun, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct National Party of Nigeria, described President Tinubu as the most strategic politician of the Fourth Republic, arguing that no opposition party currently has the political depth to challenge him effectively.
“President Tinubu is politically miles ahead of his opponents. The wave of defections to the APC shows that he’s playing a strategic game, with every move calculated like a seasoned chess master,” he stated.
He praised Tinubu as the embodiment of Nigeria’s democratic growth, attributing the President’s rise to decades of deliberate political planning and coalition-building.
“Tinubu’s political journey should be a case study in global institutions. His success reflects vision, perseverance, and strategy.
“No one else in Nigeria has come close to his level of readiness for leadership,” Ogundokun added.
He also pointed to what he called visible improvements under Tinubu’s administration, including a reduction in terrorism and herdsmen attacks, ongoing infrastructure projects, and increased funds available to states and local governments following the removal of fuel subsidies.
Ogundokun called on Nigerians to renew their support for Tinubu in 2027, saying the President has begun fulfilling his campaign promises and has shown commitment to responsive governance.
