Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, have rescued two Fulani herders abducted by suspected kidnappers in a forest along the Ondo and Edo states boundary, while also recovering their cattle.
The victims, identified as Abubakar Umaru and Adulahi Umaru, were reportedly grazing cattle in the Owo area when they were seized by armed men and taken into a remote forest.
Speaking on the operation, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the rescue mission was launched after the victims’ parents reported that the young herders had failed to return home with their livestock.
According to him, the agency treated the incident as a priority despite handling numerous rescue operations across the state.
Adeleye explained that operatives first succeeded in recovering all the missing cattle before intensifying efforts to locate the abducted herders.
He disclosed that investigations confirmed the victims had been kidnapped, prompting security personnel to comb the dense forest stretching between Ondo and Edo states, including the Abuja Forest area within Owo Local Government Area.
The Amotekun commander said the operatives eventually located the kidnappers’ hideout and rescued the victims unharmed.
He added that the suspects fled the scene after realising they had been surrounded by security personnel.
Adeleye commended members of the public for providing timely intelligence that contributed to the success of the operation, stressing that the corps remains committed to safeguarding every resident irrespective of ethnic background.
He maintained that the agency does not discriminate in carrying out its responsibilities, noting that anyone involved in criminal activities would be treated as a criminal regardless of tribe or ethnicity.

The rescued herders, while recounting their ordeal, said the kidnappers forcefully took them away from their cattle and marched them deep into the forest before Amotekun operatives arrived and secured their freedom.
