The House of Representatives Wednesday resolved to take over the legislative functions of the Kogi State House of Assembly pending the resolution of the crisis that has engulfed it.
The resolution to take over the Assembly was sequel to the adoption of the recommendations of a 10- man Committee, led by the Deputy Whip, Pally Iriase, set up to investigate the alleged illegal removal of the Speaker of Kogi State of Assembly.
In his recommendation, the committee stated that in view of the fact that the Kogi State House of Assembly cannot perform it’s Legislative functions due to the crises, it was necessary for the National Assembly to invoke section 11(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to take over the legislative functions of the State House of Assembly pending the restoration of normalcy in the Assembly.
Prompt News recalls that five members of the Assembly recently impeached the Speaker, Hon. Jimoh Momoh.
But, in his resolution, the federal lawmakers declared the impeachment null and void.
Also, the House directed the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase to seal-off the Assembly complex until further notice.
