The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 26 year old hospital cleaner for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla Sport belonging to a serving National Youth Service Corps doctor and fleeing with the vehicle.
The command said the 2016 model vehicle, estimated to be worth about N18 million, was recovered during an intelligence driven operation that led to the suspect’s arrest in Kano State.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the incident was reported after the vehicle owner said he handed the car to the suspect, identified as Mohammed Dan Azumi of Girei Local Government Area, to be washed.
Police said the suspect allegedly drove the vehicle away instead of returning it to its owner.
Following the complaint, operatives of the State Intelligence Department in Yola launched a coordinated operation, tracked the suspect to Kano State and recovered the stolen vehicle.
The command said investigations were still in progress, adding that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabiru Hassan, commended the investigating team for its professionalism and dedication, describing the operation as a reflection of the command’s commitment to tackling crime across the state.
He also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating criminal activities.
Meanwhile, findings revealed that the suspect worked as a cleaner at Girei Cottage Hospital, where the vehicle owner, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, is posted as a medical doctor.
