The World Health Organisation (WHO), has said it spent ₦995 million in 2022, on different health intervention projects in Plateau.
The State Coordinator of WHO in the state, Mr Musa Mahdi, disclosed this during a courtesy visit on Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, on Monday at the Government House, Jos.
Mahdi said that the projects executed across the state were designed to augment government’s efforts towards improving the overall wellbeing of the electorate, as health was crucial for optimal productivity.
He, however, decried lack of payment of counterpart funding, as responsible for the delay in achieving the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the state, and appealed for increased funding for health-related initiatives.
Mahdi commended the state government for its healthcare policies, noting that it was in line with global healthcare standards.
He also appealed to the governor, to recruit more healthcare professionals, and also establish a Health Workforce Registry.
The WHO official urged the state government to ensure vulnerable groups and marginalised communities accessed its health coverage.
Responding, the governor commended WHO for its support through its various health interventions in disease prevention and treatment in the state.
According to Mutfwang, his administration is determined to improve healthcare service delivery in the state, and reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning Plateau State University, to produce the qualified medical professionals the state requires.
He expressed confidence in those he had appointed to head the ministry of health and other agencies, to deliver on the state’s health thrust policy.
“’I am glad that this administration has brought on board a number of very competent, dedicated people of Plateau State, to be able to man the various institutions in the health sector,” Mutfwang said. (NAN)
