The suspended lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly are currently in the United Kingdom for a capacity building on legislative activities.
Speaker Martins Amaewhule was said to have declared open the 10th Rivers Assembly Legislative Tour of the United Kingdom on Friday.
On Monday, they were hosted to a dinner by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Prompt News reports that the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said the minister left Nigeria on Sunday after visiting one of his political associates in Port Harcourt.
The media aide opined that the legislative tour would allow the House to learn new things outside the shores of Nigeria, which would improve the capacity of members for the tasks ahead.
Olayinka posted on X.com on Tuesday: “Yesterday, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, hosted Rivers State House of Assembly members who are in the United Kingdom for Legislative Capacity Building, to a dinner.
“Wike left Nigeria on Sunday night after visiting his political friends and associates in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.”
Following the declaration of the State of Emergency by President Bola Tinubu, on March 18, 2025, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy and all elected lawmakers were suspended.
The suspension paved the way for appointment of a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), as Sole Administrator for an initial period of six months.
Ibas has since assumed duty and made key appointments and announced that a fresh budget is being prepared.
