Purple Krown Academy of New Layout on Tuesday defeated FC Golden of Abakpa 3-1 in the last match of the FA/Aiteo Cup round one in Enugu.
During the encounter played on Rangers International FC training pitch, Arinze Ogbodo gave Purple Krown 1-0 lead in the 44th minute.
Ogbodo scored a brace in the 61st minute but Samuel Okafor gave FC Golden hope, when he reduced the tally to 2-1 in the 79th minute.
However, Dennis Nlul made it 3-1 for Purple Krown in the 84th minute to secure a place for his team in the next round of the competition.
Meanwhile, Enugu Angels FC from Agbani Road pipped Stallions FC of Nsukka 1-0.
The goal was scored by Francis Ebuka before the interval.
In a post-match interview, Purple Krown’s Head Coach, Reginald Ugochukwu, described Enugu Angels as a great team.
“Watching them play earlier showed that we have a lot of work to do before the next round and I hope we scale through.
“Our target is to reach the final in this year’s competition because it has eluded us for years and we are determined to break the jinx this time around.
“For the fact that we missed a lot of chances against FC Golden shows that we have to go back to the drawing board to avoid such in the next game.
“Challenge Cup is a knockout game and there is no second chance.
“It means you are not expected to miss scoring chances because it may come back to hurt you,” Ugocbukwu said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Great Achievers FC and De-Lawmaco FC will kick-off the second round at the Rangers International training pitch by 10am on Wednesday. (NAN)
