The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has commenced an operational assessment of the recently inaugurated Exercise Golden Dawn to South Eastern States of Anambra and Ebonyi.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Tuesday, said the operational assessment followed the inauguration of three Nigerian Army Field Training Exercises on Monday, at Emene in Enugu State on Monday.

Yahaya urged the troops to be professional in their conduct during and after the exercise and assured them of adequate support to carryout their tasks effectively.

While expressing satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise so far, he commended the existing synergy among the security agencies.

The COAS urged the troops to focus on the objectives of the Exercise in order to curb violence and other criminal activities across the southeast in particular and the country in general.

He admonished the troops to respect the rights of members of their host communities and all citizens, adding, that the Nigerian army had zero tolerance for indiscipline.

While at the 24 Support Engineer Regiment in Abakaliki, Ebonyi, the COAS commended Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and other southeast governors for their efforts in ensuring that peace and security are restored across the southeast.

The governor in turn, commended the COAS for his effort in stemming pockets of violence in parts of the Southeast.

At Anambra, in Sector 5 the COAS inspected the troops of 302 Artillery Regiment and 14 Field Engineer Regiment at Igbariam, East of Anambra and received briefing from the Commander, Col. Abdulkarim Usman. (NAN)
