Tottenham head into the international break still searching for their first Premier League victory after suffering a 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa.
Roberto De Zerbi’s expensively assembled side were undone by goals from Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emi Buendia as Villa secured their first league win of the season.
Tottenham twice found a way back into the contest but ultimately paid the price for a costly defensive display, leaving them without a Premier League win heading into the international break.
Conor Gallagher at least got Spurs’ first goal of the season late on, followed up by a Jan Paul van Hecke header, but it was nothing more than a consolation and too little too late.
The hosts have only won five of their last 36 matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
They will travel to Old Trafford for a clash with Manchester United on Saturday, 10 October.
