Nollywood actress Aisha Lawal has opened up about her decision to shield her daughter, Zara, from public exposure after receiving criticism for covering the girl’s face at a recent birthday party.
A video from Rakeem’s birthday celebration had shown Lawal arriving at the event with her daughter. As a woman recording the moment mentioned the child’s name and school, the actress quickly used the hat she was wearing to cover Zara’s face.
The action generated reactions online, with some questioning why Lawal chose to conceal her daughter.
However, speaking with Morayo Afolabi Brown, Lawal explained that she intentionally keeps her daughter away from the public space because of the circumstances surrounding her birth and her concerns about online bullying.
The actress revealed that Zara was born from her first pregnancy, which occurred when she was in her 30s. She also disclosed that her daughter had a twin brother who later died.
“Yes, I deliberately covered my daughter’s face at Rakeem’s birthday party because she is the product of my first pregnancy. I became pregnant with them when I was in my 30s, and did you know she had a twin brother who later left?
“I want you all to understand what I went through before having her. I don’t want my daughter Zara to be on the internet at all because I’m not comfortable with the way some people bully children. I don’t care about the backlash online.”
Prompt News reports Lawal said protecting her daughter from social media exposure was more important to her than the criticism that followed the incident.
The actress also spoke about her decision to keep her partner and the father of her children away from public attention.
According to her, she has observed that things kept private tend to receive greater respect.
