Arsenal’s title charge suffered a setback on Saturday afternoon as they fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners missed the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table to 12 points following the loss, while Bournemouth secured a second consecutive away victory at the Emirates.
The visitors made a bright start and were rewarded in the 17th minute when Junior Kroupi put them ahead with a well-taken goal.
Arsenal responded and were handed a lifeline after Ryan Christie was penalised for handling Gabriel Magalhães’ shot inside the box.
Viktor Gyökeres stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to level the score for Mikel Arteta’s side.
However, Bournemouth had the final say, with Alex Scott netting the decisive goal 16 minutes from time to seal a memorable win.
The result opens the door for Manchester City, who can cut Arsenal’s lead at the top to six points if they beat Chelsea on Sunday.
