Ekiti State government has paid N55 million to offset the surgery bills of 46 residents.
The governor’s wife, Mrs Bisi Fayemi, distributed cheques for the payment on Monday at the Oba Adejugbe Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.
She assured that the exercise would be a continuous one in view of government’s desire to ensure that people safe, healthy and prosperous.
She urged residents to take advantage of the Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme, which she described as a safety net for the vulnerable in the society.
The governor’s wife said the exercise was in fulfilment of her husband’s electioneering campaign promises and added that beneficiaries were examined by the state’s Medical Board before selection.
Also speaking at the event, Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, said “Selection of the beneficiaries was without bias or partisanship, but based on the need to save lives.’’
Filani said it was the second time in the year that the state government was picking medical bills of indigent students.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Timothy Adebayo appreciated the gesture of the state government and thanked the Gov. Fayemi’s administration for giving succour to the poor. (NAN)
